What Does SACHSA Do For Me?
Why should I join SACHSA? What do I get for my dues? What does SACHSA do for me?
These questions have been posed several times over the years by many of us.SACHSA is, above all, a support group for Christian home schoolers.I cannot imagine teaching our children without the support provided by being a part of SACHSA and getting to know the families we have over the years. There are several things that are offered and paid for, at least in part, by your SACHSA dues.
Every year a History and Science Fair as well as Spelling and Geography Bees are hosted for all who choose to participate.A back to school swim party, Spring Tea for moms and Thanksgiving dinner for families are always great fun.Mom’s Night Out is a great time of fellowship and learning with speakers, mentor moms, games and fun for all moms who attend.Lois Droegemeier and students have worked super hard to form the SACHSA band.
This past year your SACHSA members help put together the West Texas Family Conference. A Home School Conference which featured many workshops and great speakers, some nationally known. Next year’s conference is already being planned!
We cannot forget graduation. One of the most visible SACHSA events, graduation is an awesome opportunity for graduates and their families to show off years of hard work and sacrifice to family and friends. Many home school families say attending a graduation has inspired them to continue in their journey.
Sandy Seidel has spent countless hours working on the SACHSA website and sending of emails over the years. There is a huge amount of information on the SACHSA website, and particularly in the members area, about home schooling in general, relevant legal issues and about SACHSA events and opportunities.Links to other resources are also available on the site.Visit often to see what is going on and watch for some new and exciting changes this year!
All SACHSA events are hosted at facilities, usually churches, who are compensated at the end of the year for their generosity in allowing us to use their buildings.
SACHSA also supports THSC and HSLDA through monetary donations every year.If you are not familiar with these organizations visit their websites to learn more about the support and advocacy they provide home schoolers in Texas and throughout the country.Consider supporting them as well by becoming a member.
Being a member of SACHSA allows you to fellowship and get to know many other like-minded Christian families. The bonds of friendship that are formed are absolutely invaluable.A part of that networking and fellowship is the benefit of hearing about other activities such as SACHSA basketball, the Little Olympics, Civil Air Patrol, the used curriculum book fair, Bright Lights Teen Group, Salt Coop, park days, Munchkin Bunch, Community Bible Study, various field trips, mom’s book clubs, Iowa Basic Skills testing and so much more.
After reading this you may be asking yourself, “Now what can I do in SACHSA”?Is there an opportunity here for you to be involved?Absolutely! Most importantly support and attend the many events that have been planned by members just like you. Many events are pay-as-you-go and organized by SACHSA parents. Is there a class, fair, or field trip you would like to start?A hobby you would like others to know about? If so, make it happen!Contact your SACHSA Director, Jackie Hampton, to see how you can be involved in existing events or to see how you can start something new!As you can see, there is a lot already going on, but there is always room for more!
